	Stage 1
	Normal healthy gums and bone which hold teeth firmly in their place.

	Stage 2
	Mild gingivitis caused by plaque and calculus manifested as red gums,tender on touch and ready to bleed.

	Stage 3
	Periodontitis caused because of retained calculus manifested as gingival recession and pocket formation. Bone levels are also affected.

	Stage 4
	Advanced Periodontitis in which bone loss is severe causing mobility of teeth and gingival recession.

1. Scaling and polishing of teeth:
Scaling is done to remove the plaque and calculus accumulated around the teeth. This is necessary for the regular maintenance of a healthy dentition.


2)Flap surgeries (gum and bone surgeries):

Supportive bone around the root is diseased and partially destroyed.		First plaque and tartar are removed from the infected pocket.


The bone is smoothed & reshaped reducing spaces where bacteria can grow.		The gum is then attached back at or below the original gum line.
